The nights are getting cold
The days are getting short
And summer's balmy gold
Is merely now a thought

The leaves will rust and fall
The light will lose its strength
A dark and gloomy pall
Will last the whole day's length

But there will be some days
When all is clear and bright
The sun will send his rays
Lest we forget his might

The softly falling snows
And gentle blowing breeze
Will strain and sway the boughs
Of all the woodland trees

The winter freeze will pass
And spring will soon be here
And icicles of glass
Will melt and disappear
