MYOPIC RUSH

All was good before I looked
Continuing my gaze
And suddenly a beast’s unleashed
Surging for the edge

I try to stem myopic rush
Sensation floods my soul
And all I’d known was swept away
I barely found a ledge

To stop and grasp my trembling heart
Reclaim integrity
Salvage scraps of shredded self
Remembering holy pledge

To be the master of my drives
Contain all errant thought
And be content with home and hearth
A gently fragrant hedge
