El cuarto poder es una película de cine negro estadounidense de 1952 protagonizada por Humphrey Bogart, Ethel Barrymore y Kim Hunter. Está escrita y dirigida por Richard Brooks.

La película relata la historia del editor de un periódico que expone los crímenes de un gánster al mismo tiempo que intenta evitar que el diario cierre.
A través de este argumento, se reivindica de una forma magistral el periodismo de calidad, puesto que muestra una realidad en esta profesión que no se aleja en absoluto de la de hoy en día, a pesar de que han pasado unos cuantos años; una realidad donde los intereses económicos y políticos están por encima de todo y unos pocos luchan por sacar a la luz lo que el público merece leer: la verdad.
De hecho, el filme está lleno de frases que podrían parecer clichés y que, sin embargo, reflejan muy bien la situación, la profesión y el mundo del que se habla, como «una prensa libre, lo mismo que una vida libre, es siempre arriesgada» (Siegel, 1952) o «todo el mundo tiene su precio» (Siegel, 1952).

Through this argument, quality journalism is vindicated in a masterful way, since it shows a reality in this profession that is not far from that of today, despite the fact that a few years have passed; a reality where economic and political interests are above all else and a few fight to bring to light what the public deserves to read: the truth.
In fact, the film is full of phrases that could seem clichés and that, nevertheless, reflect very well the situation, the profession and the world that is being talked about, such as "a free press, the same as a free life, is always risky" (Siegel, 1952) or "everyone has their price" (Siegel, 1952).
