Egyptians protest for a third night.
Description
Hundreds of protesters fill the streets of Alexandria demanding an end to military rule.
On Sunday the civilian cabinet tendered their resignation.
This is a blow to the military council's authority, and casts doubt on Egypt's first free parliamentary elections in decades.
It is not clear whether the council will accept the cabinet's resignation.
Egyptian activists are calling for a huge turnout in protests on Tuesday.
Around 20,000 protested in Cairo's Tahrir Square overnight.
So far the demonstrations have yet to pull the hundreds of thousands onto the streets, that toppled former President Hosni Mubarak.
In Ismailia, 44 people were injured during clashes between protesters and security forces.
Egypt's staggered and complex election process is due to start on November 28 in Cairo, and elsewhere.
The army says the polls will go ahead.
The military plans to keep its presidential powers until a new constitution is drawn up, and a president is elected in late 2012 or early 2013.
Protesters want a much swifter transition.
