Where do we cheat more than we cheat in love?
Or in attempts at faith more travesty?
How unmistakable the tokens of
that godly force when true, and his high see

no distance hazes through the perfect air,
for sooner tear myself in half than us.
And yet, how many times did we declare
to others love, and urgently discuss?

before we dashed them down, or played them false,
because there was no entry of the blood,
no names were written, nothing but our calls.
Such was our hunger anything was good.

I look back on those days to wonder why
I live to have insulted deity.
