Stole a starfish
from an ocean

snatched from the bottom
of the sea

making it
into a paperweight

holding down
unruly poems

trying to escape
on a passing breeze.

The ghost of
an ocean

hiding in a shell

so female
Mother of Pearl

whispering
in my ear

the sound
of my own

blood.
