Description

She dances alone
around the tiny room
she owns

to the strains of
Musetta’s Waltz

as snow
falls outside.

Her laughter
an extra Christmas decoration.

She dances alone
around this tiny room

to the same sad Puccini.

Summer floods the room
with sunshine.

She dances alone
(but not alone)

for she is
(how does the Bible say it)

with child.

The expression always makes her
smile.

She is a lady
in waiting.

Time attends her

The Puccini makes her cry.

She dances
with her baby daughter

this her first
Christmas

Musetta’s Waltz
lost amongst the Christmas decorations.

She is called Musetta.

Her father
has never met her.

He is only a memory
that makes her Mother cry

reaching for the sherry
and the Puccini.
