Paying no
attention to Death

or any such
niceities

I enter
the photograph

clamber up
upon her lap

cling to her
apron

of stars &
flowers

curl up
in her lap

& go to sleep

just as I did
when I was six

I tell her
as I have always
told her:

'I love you
Granny! '

'Shhhh! ' she sighs 'Shhhh! '
and strokes my sleeping hair.

Death furious
at this breaking of

protocol.
