Outside the rain
listens

to the soft splutter
of a paint roller

moving slushily
from tray to wall
wall to tray

turning the world
to a bright baby pink

for what will be
our nursery.

This for today
is: Plan A.

The longed for baby
now merely
a twinkle
in my eye.

We get on
with the business of today.

Somehow
your roller
(don’t - ask me how)
misses the wall
