drives right up to
the sea’s edge
stops:
just - short of it.
A wave laps
the front wheel
kindly
like a cat.
Beautiful woman
(all in white)
steps out of
the Mini
& out of
her mini.
My 14 yr. old
mind
stands
agasp!
She undresses
in a flash.
Plunges
urgently
into the sea’s
urgency.
Swims out
to meet the horizon.
Meanwhile
her white clothes
neatly folded
in a neat pile
elope
with the first
naughty wind
that comes along.
Her clothes
fly out to sea
chasing their mistress.
The beach
laughs.
Gaily coloured
balls bounce.
Sandcastles
fall to footprints.
Candyfloss is &
isn’t…in an instant.
Dad packs
everything
(including us)
into Uncle Michael’s
old blue van
& we leave
before she
returns.
For me she is
always
swimming out to sea
the horizon calling
her.
Her
clothes
flying after
her
like strange
white birds.
Her Mini now
submerged
below
the waves.
