An empty
Champagne bottle

and of such vintage
impressive…expensive

a left over from
some old boyfriend

a pompous bastard
(so you tell me)

who considered himself
a connoisseur of
all things fine.

You deciding to put his knowledge
to the test

popping a cheap bottle
out of sight in the kitchen

and pouring its contents
into the more expensive one

Et volia ..
he praised its magnificence
...its exceptionalness!

You laughing
all the time

snorting at the bubbles getting up your nose
as you drank the expensive one from the cheap bottle

only telling him
when you left him

after calling all women whores.

“Oh no dear...
I’m expensive champagne
in a cheap bottle! ”

“But then...you’ll never know! ”
