comes alive

from the scrawled message

telling me you will be late

that your library books are out of date

and you will pop into the supermarket
& get some fresh orange juice

and oh...could I feed the cat
if it has come back!

You tell me you love me
amidst a flurry of X's.

I remember this
as if it were only yesterday

and it is only yesterday

...twenty years ago.

The Past attempts to
assassinate me

leaping Ninja like
from forgotten books

killing me with yellow post-it notes.

Your copy of
A THOUSAND YEARS OF SOLITUDE

lies exhausted
on the bed

as if it were a seabird
driven by a storm

& fallen into
our human domain

as driftwood...driftwood.

I stick yellow
Post It Notes

on every object
our humanity takes for granted

door
window
ceiling
floor

until I
have pinned down

the space whe live in


...ooh the winds of forgetfulnes!

Soon the room
flutters & dances in the breeze

ablaze with yellow.

I try to pin
the words

Love

...& Hope?

on the invisible air

but they refuse to stay there

...their meaning forgotten now

...already.
