Dying 'George Washington Tree' Cut Down

A dying oak tree where the first US president, George Washington, picnicked during the American Revolution was cut down on Monday, April 24.
The 600-year-old tree in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, would not withstand upcoming “harsh winters or spring storms,” said arborists, reported NBC New York</a>.
