During the mating season

During the mating season, male musk oxen engage in some of the most dramatic battles in the animal kingdom. Two bulls can charge at speeds of up to 50 km/h (30 mph), smashing their heavily reinforced skulls together with tremendous force. These clashes determine dominance and the right to mate with females. Despite the violent impacts, their thick skulls and specialized horn structures help absorb the shock, allowing them to survive battles that can last for hours.
