Le professeur Francione a développé une théorie des droits des animaux qui repose strictement sur le critère de la sensibilité des nonhumains et qui requiert l’abolition de l’exploitation animale et non pas sa simple réglementation. La théorie du professeur Francione, qui est développée plus en détails dans Introduction to Animal Rights: Your Child or the Dog? (Temple University Press, 2000), diffère considérablement de celles qu’ont proposées d’autres auteurs, comme Peter Singer et Tom Regan principalement.
