Draft resolution reached

Russia and the U.S. have agreed on the wording of a draft resolution that would disarm Syria of its chemical weapons..

(SOUNDBITE) (English) VITALY CHURKIN, RUSSIAN AMBASSADOR, SAYING:

"Russia and the United States have just introduced to the Security Council a draft resolution on the elimination of chemical weapons in Syria. It is fully in line with the framework agreement which was reached in Geneva by Foreign Minister Lavrov and Secretary Kerry, so it took us only two weeks to bring that framework agreement to fruition.

And while the resolution does not sanction military action if Syria fails to comply - U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Samantha Power said the resolution does spell out consequences for Syria if it doesn't act.
