douglas scotney - How can we understand?

Once God is dead
the more a person has of money,
no matter how he made it,
the further from fault he can be;

and the further from understanding:

how can a man so much regret
how he made his money,
that he can let his child
hold up a head
and look as if he thinks it's funny?
