Thomas claims to have the best paintwork on Sodor, but it doesn't look so flash when an accident on Percy's behalf causes him to be covered in coal dust. Thomas refuses to speak to Percy for the rest of the night, but laughs the next day when Percy loses control near the water column and runs into a coalpit, and the two make up that night.
