Donald Trump's Foreign Policy Explained

Even during his Presidential Campaigns his foreign policy had been in much discussion and today after a year that Donald Trump assumed office in White House as the 45th President of the United States his foreign policy continues to be a controversial affair. Let us try and understand some of the important foreign policy decisions of President Donald Trump since his election as the President of United States of America and his slogan to ‘Make America Great Again.’
Mexico
Signing an executive order on January 25, 2017 President Donald Trump called for an “immediate construction of a physical wall on the southern border.” He also said that in the long run Mexico will have to pay for the wall construction. This to date seems to be just in papers and nothing more. President Trump and the Mexican President Pena Nieto were scheduled for a meeting in the White House on January 31 but the Mexican President called off the meeting on January 26. Both the Presidents did have a telephonic conversation and they stated that they will work on it together along with other trade and security issues. Another threat for Mexico is that Trump is threatening to withdraw from NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement). About 80% of Mexico exports go to America and tariff’s on them will damage the economy of Mexico. Because of NAFTA trade was booming but even the American farmers think that their business is in jeopardy as Mexican buyers have already begun outsourcing their commodities.
Israel
President Donald Trump announced that United States of America recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel on December 6, 2017. Despite the warnings given by America’s Middle East allies he went ahead with the decision. He also delivered a speech about his decision being the right thing to do. The Embassy of United States would be moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. This decision went completely against the Washington policy. Jerusalem is a special place for Christians, Jews and the Muslim and also happens to be the territorial war between Israel and Palestine. His announcement was seen as him taking sides with the Israel government whereas the role of United States is that of an honest negotiator in the process of regional peace. The process instantly led to more conflicts and the Palestinians began protesting. All the leaders from the Middle East have necessitated that President Trump withdraw this recognition.
North Korea
When President Trump addressed the United Nations General Assembly in the month of September, 2017 he said that he would ‘destroy’ North Korea. He also made many contemptible remarks against the North Korean leader – Kim Jong-un. He also dispirited his government from keeping in touch with Kim Jong-un. The way North Korea has been handled had led to unnecessary tensions and pressure. From the beginning of 2017 Pyongyang has already fired 23 missiles in their tests and have completely ignored to listen to any international calls.
