Don't Ask - Help

The old man
on the side of the road
with nothing but a backpack
and a cardboard sign.

It read, 'Help',
that one single word.

His bright blue eyes
barely visible amidst
his long silver hair.
This is a person.

Mom said 'no, thanks,
someone else'll take care of him.'
As we drove on in the Volvo.

Damn it, don't you see?
All he wanted was help.
All he needed was help.
And you just drove away.
