Description

Deeper and deeper the descent gets steeper
And the mind is none the wiser
Darker and darker the end looms larger
And the mouth grows all the wider

It's hollow, it's empty, and yet it's tempting
To allow one's reason to falter
Farther and farther the light grows smaller
And the echoes call out an arduous holler

Deeper and darker to see the barker
Who's sure to sale me on a reason to stay
It's harder and harder to recall the ardor
When once I did merrily play

How from glad times and childhood rhymes
I am now so absent and far away
When cheerful lines turned into this dark dank mind
I can't now find the memory of the day

The descent, most gentle, did not resemble
The madness to which it has borne
What pain can kindle from just a thimble
A dose of maddening scorn
