The song was written by the Dutch singer-songwriter Don Rosenbaum and is about this very special location in the city of Amsterdam. This neighborhood is known for its beautiful architecture as well as for its painful past during the Second world war. The times and situation may have changed since then but the feelings about it all still resurface time and again in poems and songs like this one.
