http://www.howtostartownbusiness.co.uk/doing-your-research/ Doing your research is very, very important if you're looking to go into business. This is one of the reasons why people fail in business when they start out. They haven't done their research. Doing your research means saving a lot of time, effort and money by doing some work upfront to identify if there is a market that is willing to invest in your business or that is willing to spend money.

Let's have a look at doing your research for today. Now, I've broken this into three topics: "Identifying A Niche", "Is It Profitable?" and "Show Me The Money".

Identifying A Niche

Yes, we really got to identify, if you're going into business, you need to survive. You need to have something that will sustain you.

As an employee, you just got paid every month. You did what was required of the organisation and followed instructions. So let's identify a niche.

Identifying a niche means finding a market where people are willing to do business with you, not only that, are they willing to spend money?

Just imagine life without Google. Many people don't even look up the telephone book. When you type into Google a search keyword, Google itself is even coming up with suggestions on what people have been looking for.

There are many software tools available now for you to do this. Products like Market Samurai is one example, just do a search. Register for a Google account and you'll have free access to many of these tools that I'm mentioning to help you find your market.

Now, finding your market means "What are you doing differently from anybody else?" and "Is there a big enough demand?" So identify your niche.

Is It Profitable?

Once you've done that, you ask: "Is it profitable?" You can identify the niche but you've got to ask yourself: "Are people going to spend money?" You need to do some research to find out.

"Is it profitable?"
"What is your competition?"
"Are there big players in the market that is going make it difficult?"

To be profitable, one of the things is using the Internet because you can start out from home and reduce your costs so much greater.

What is the greatest expense?
What's the greatest cost?
How can you reduce it as much as possible?

The Internet online business is the easiest start-up method to get your presence online and into the marketplace because people can't exactly see from your website if you're working from home and, really, do you need to be at that office? So find out: Is it profitable?

Show Me The Money

You've got to know that there is money in the business. I know we can have a "goodwill" cause and that you'd like to help people around you, but unless you can help yourself and unless your business can give you the livelihood that you need, you cannot help anyone else because you're not helping yourself.

Therefore, start offloading the duties. Delegate the duties so you free up your time. Show me the money is all about that.
