Description

Senator Wendy Rogers, an Arizona Republican, recently said that people should have the freedom to buy currencies other than Bitcoin, even if they aren’t “as good” as the apex token. In a Twitter ($TWTR@US) firestorm, Rogers called for greater financial freedom, seeming to fall in line with crypto proponents like Dallas Mavericks owners, Mark Cuban, and Tesla ($TSLA@US) CEO, Elon Musk. In part, she tweeted, “I don’t understand the SHIB. I don’t understand the DOGE. But I do understand freedom.” However, this seems to be part of a move to make Arizona cryptocurrency-central for the United States. While Rogers claimed that she did not understand cryptocurrencies, she has introduced legislation in the state that would make Bitcoin legal tender in Arizona. Unfortunately, under the Constitution, individual states cannot choose their own legal tenders. This move comes along with other cities and states that want to be open to cryptocurrency and attract business, specifically Miami and New York which has garnered quite a lot of press recently for promoting the cryptocurrency industry. At press time, Bitcoin was trading at just under $39,000, up over 4% on a sharp increase in volume and a rising market cap.
