Description

Curiosity may have killed the cat, but at a home in Connecticut, USA, a dog almost succumbed to the same fate.

A dramatic video of the incident, captured on a home security camera, shows the moment a dog almost set a house on fire while trying to reach for a slice of pizza.

'Brookfield', a female black labrador, can be seen jumping up onto a stove and accidentally igniting the gas burner as she attempts to reach for a pizza box.

Shortly after the pet walks off, the pizza box can be seen bursting into flames.

Thankfully, Brookfield's owner manages to rush in and prevent the fire from spreading, and the danger is averted.

"My wife and I were enjoying a pizza dinner and a movie with our family in our TV room unaware of what was happening in our kitchen. Our two year old female black lab, Brookfield, decided to sneak a slice for herself, but also unintentionally ignited the stove's gas burner. Luckily, we were home and were able to prevent this minor mishap from turning into an extremely bad situation and a potentially tragic story.

"This footage was captured on our home security/surveillance cameras which we installed throughout there house to watch our three dogs while they are away at work or out for the evening. We never expected to capture something like this."

Since this video, we have installed child safety covers on all of the stove's burner knobs as well as purchased a fire extinguisher that is now stored under the sink. Oh...and we don't leave things on the stove anymore either," the owner wrote online.

Although the video was captured in September, it has only recently emerged online.
