Description

Iran is a predominantly Shia Country with more than 90% of the population associating themselves with the Shia Islam; But what about the Sunni minority? Do they enjoy the freedom necessary to practice their religion? Are they allowed to occupy high ranking academic and governmental posts? There are places on the periphery of the country where the minority Sunni becomes the local majority and there you can see what it means to be an Iranian Sunni. Many Iranian Kurds live in the Province of Kurdistan in Eastern Iran. Sunni Kurds enjoy the same rights as their shia brothers and many hold academic or governmental posts. Intersect marriages are allowed and practiced. And Sunni Iranians have their own seminary schools and cultural centers.
As with the self explanatory title, “Competence, the Criteria” tries to reveal that unlike some other places, race and religion are not meritorious factors in Iran. What matters is personal achievements and competence. If you are competent enough, you are given the stage for your performance and race, sex and sectarian considerations play no role. After all, all are the same under the law.
