Doctors develop pioneering new eye operation
Description
Doctors have developed lens implants that can be adjusted after an operation - giving perfect vision to patients with serious sight problems or cataracts.
The technique could end up replacing some of the 300,000 implant operations that take place on the NHS every year.
Implants are very common, but these new plastic lenses are special because they can be adjusted a couple of weeks after the operation to put them in.
Surgeons use ultraviolet radiation to adjust the lens and mould it to suit the specific requirements of the patient just a few weeks after implantation.
That fixes or cures the plastic of the lens and changes its shape.
