The Good, the Bad and the Ugly on directing in Hollywood. And what's cool about doing it yourself, independently. Do you agree with Scott?
In this 4-part interview, writer/director Scott Sanders (Black Dynamite, Thick as Thieves, and Aztec Warrior) joins indie/cult-director Jack Perez (Some Guy Who Kills People, Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus, La Cucaracha, The Big Empty) for a super candid and sometimes shocking in-depth discussion on the enormous challenges and obstacles faced by filmmakers in Hollywood. From making the jump from short film to first feature and navigating Sundance, to having the courage to say no to lame studio ideas and staying true to yourself - this series reveals what it takes to survive and succeed in the sometimes surreal and often infuriating movie business.
Episode 4 deals with the amount of compromise filmmakers often contend with, and how it takes a toll on the artist as well as audiences when studio meddling kicks into high gear. Also how at the end of the day, what's important is how much "love" the filmmaker is able to inject into his work. Scott also describes the absurdity of his trying to make a "reverse Different Strokes" when the studio wanted to do it without kids?! With references to Black Dynamite, Different Strokes, Thick as Thieves, Michael Jae White, Alec Baldwin, and Hello Larry.
