My home was once so sweet and pure
and now has gone astray
When that old man with all his cattle
destroyed and ate my hay

My home was once a place of joy
where all could find relief
and now it's just a place of tears
thanks to that old thief

When once i had a string of pearls
to hang about my throat
now all i have is wisps of gray
curling tendrils of smoke

that old man, he did me wrong
when he took all my hay
all i had was a pair of tongs
to remedy the decay

but now i'm standing strong, i am
he'll never get me down
when i tell everybody this:
he's the mayor of our town!
