Inhalt: Anfang der 50er Jahre sucht die New Yorker Dichterin Elizabeth Bishop in Rio de Janeiro nach Inspiration für ihre Texte. Bei ihrer Studienfreundin Mary findet sie die nötige Ruhe. Doch Marys Lebensgefährtin, die Architektin Lota, ist erst nicht begeistert von dem Besuch der Poetin. Mit der Zeit schlägt die anfängliche Abneigung in tiefe Zuneigung um und es entwickelt sich eine verzwickte Dreiecksgeschichte.
