Description

I shouldn’t have, but I did
I climbed the wobbly ladder on unsure feet
And my hypnotized hands sought the cloud
I held the Golden one that hung so far above
I kissed its Amber eyes and met a floating Sun
And I ruffled its wind-kissed wispy hair
I laid my cheek on its chest, warm as cotton bales
I heard the heavenly rhapsody of heartbeats
And I slipped off the rung in the moment
I felt its delectable baritone under my skin
I touched it tender with honest love
And as if this was not a risk enough
I gave it all of me!
I shouldn’t have, but I did.
And in the split second of that fateful slip
I held out my hand so it could catch the falling me
I only saw a blank, far-away look in its Sun-filled eyes
And I knew I had meant nothing at all.
I stand like a jigsaw puzzle, bereft of crucial pieces
I am a stranger to this shredded shadow
And I abhor its insistence on trailing me
I know I don’t need to say this aloud
I will still, if only to have it by rote:

That a cloud, no matter how believable
Is but a whiff of smoke!
