Dia Chatterjee - A Smile Lost

I lost a special and much loved smile today.
A smile that would take my hand and roll me
Down the hills of laughter or perched on a cliff
It would hold me in its lap and we’d chortle away!

It’s the most beautiful smile in all of world:
The lopsided one that lingers in liquid eyes,
And is brewed from bratty impulses;
With zesty tangs of sarcasm thrown in,
And add to it a darling dimple that twinkles;
Each time it savors those cheeky chuckles!

Only it’s upset with me and that fills me with dismay;
And so it hiked out on padded shoes; ever so quietly,
As I suffer the clanging echoes of our mirthful yesterday,
And the woeful hills only stare back at a dolorous, lonely me!
