Desperate search for missing ship crew
Description
Two Peruvian families -- one, relieved...the other, in despair.
Benedicta Molina has traveled to Italy to search of her daughter Erika, one of the missing crew members of Costa Concordia.
Erika was a waitress on the cruise ship, whose crew members comprised 40 nationalities including Peruvians.
Erika's sister Madeleine and her father Sartonino came along -- desperate for any information and prepared for the worst.
(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) SISTER MADELEINE SORIA SAYING:
"We are here to find my sister. We have a little bit of hope even if we should only find her body, we want to find her -- dead or alive."
They are pleading to rescue teams.
(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) FATHER SARTONINO SORIA SAYING:
"We are asking that at this time -- all the rescue teams and authorities don't lose any time and do everything they can to recover or find my daughter."
Back in Peru - happier news.
The Paredes family survived the disaster, much to the joy and relief of their relatives.
(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) PILAR PAREDES, THE COUSIN OF SHIP WRECK SURVIVOR NILTON PAREDES, SAYING:
"Deep, deep down I feel happy because it is a miracle of God. It really is a miracle that these three members of our family have been saved."
The death toll is at 11, while 23 people are missing.
But hopes are fading fast that more survivors will be found, five days after the Costa Concordia ran aground.
