i put on a new mask for the Christmas season
hidden I am two brackets on either side of the page – nothing between them
open to feelings and stripped bare by them
i exist briefly in the company of the poppy but without reason
paper scissors stone – a mindless game – a lesson in doing
my life is a broken thread with no way out of the maze – i must atone
the darkness so much darker when i walk alone
the impermanence of my pulse – the sound of one hand applauding
in a room full of mirrors your absence is a deafening silence
with you a new beginning? to improve learn grow and conquer defeat?
put dreams to paper? yet still my sunset lingers in a one-way street
missing you i feel the hordes that wish me violence
from you the courage, the hope and loving that i bear
does the earth still feel my footsteps – and are you still there?
