Dennis Lambert - My Airship

A psychologist
once told me
of my mind's
healing power

so now I close my eyes
and let a great airship
float me silently above

broken glass
and boarded windows,
beggers
and prostitutes,
drunks
and drugs,
starving children,
cheating spouses,
wailing babies,
lies,
deceptions,
lawyers,
and
smiling politicians

until

I see only sunlight
beneath me
on cotton clouds-
angels and unicorns,
knights and maidens,
poets and princes,
fluffy and billowing
Camelots of mind.

'Welcome aboard, '
says the captain
within me...
'Thank you for flying
Hindenburg.'
