Del Lampe Orchestra - It's Within Your Power

It seems Lampe's family emigrated from Denmark. Dell (aka Del) Lampe's bandleading activities in Chicago the '20s and '30s was the start of saxophonist Wayne King's career. As for Lampe's group, it was at times identified as Lampe's Orchestra from the Trianon Ballroom. This artist's father, Jens Bodewalt Lampe, went to work for him as an arranger. The previously mentioned connection to Chicago's Trianon Ballroom came about after the Lampe outfit under any name became the first ensembles to work there with house band status following the 1922 opening. The honor connected with this status can be tempered with the knowledge that the venue was notorious for only hiring all-white bands. Five years later, Lampe switched his relationship to the Aragon Ballroom. It was during this run that Wayne King began establishing himself as a featured instrumentalist. Lampe orchestrated a pair of Broadway shows, Make it Snappy in 1922 and Keep Moving a dozen years later. Neither was very successful for his career. He abandoned bandleading by the end of the '30s.
