Deere Workers Reject Contract
Description
A majority of Deere & Co. ($DE@US) workers—members of the United Auto Workers union—voted against a new 6-year deal brokered by union negotiators. The deal would have covered 10,000 employees in 14 facilities from Iowa, Illinois, and Kansas. The company said, “John Deere remains fully committed to continuing the collective bargaining process.” UAW Vice President Chuck Browning said 90% of the membership rejected the deal. A strike deadline was set for Wednesday; Deere stock fell around a quarter in early trading.
