Deep Feeling – Deep Feeling 1971 (UK, Progressive Rock)
13 Views • Nov 24, 2025
Description
The band formed in the summer of 1969. By this time, all five members were experienced session musicians. John Swail (better known by his stage name Guy Darrell) met Dave and Martin at sessions where Guy performed lead vocals. The three musicians invited Derek and Martin and played for nine months as "The Guy Darrell Syndicate." Their greatest success was the single "Do You Love Me," which reached number 34 in the UK charts in 1970. After the release of their only, very strong, eponymous album in 1971, the lineup changed. The band recorded until the mid-1970s, releasing four more singles, but none of them made the charts, and the lineup disbanded without a trace. Guy relaunched his solo career and released several successful singles throughout the 1970s. Due to their name and lack of popularity, the band was often confused with the more famous Birmingham band Deep Feeling, which featured Jim Capaldi and Dave Mason, who later found fame in Traffic. For example, on the compilation album The Rock Generation, two recordings of "John Swail's Deep Feeling" were listed as "Jim Capaldi Deep Feeling."
