Description

In Mali, a few lines from the country's proposed draft constitution are fueling an ongoing debate about what its official language - or languages - should be. Since Mali gained independence from France in 1960, French has been the language of government business, used on road signs and in state TV broadcasts. Now, local languages such as Bambara, the country's most-used language, are being suggested as additions to or even a replacement of French as the official language. N°32N83FZ
