DEATH IN CUSTODY

Questions are mounting tonight following the death of former police officer Rafael Samson Joseph at the Eastern Correctional Rehabilitation Centre.

Joseph, who was awaiting extradition proceedings to the United States on drug trafficking-related charges, was found unresponsive in his cell this morning.

His death comes just days after his attorneys filed urgent court documents claiming his mental health had deteriorated significantly while in custody and needed immediate intervention.

Joseph had also publicly claimed to possess information concerning alleged drug trafficking involving police officers and a sitting Member of Parliament.
