Beijing had torrential rain on Sunday, but the temperatures there have climbed to 34 degrees Celsius in the heatwave that has followed.
North America has not escaped the suffocating heat either. Excessive heat warnings have been issued. with Denver and Los Angeles tied over the all-time highest temperature at 42 degrees Celsius.
Canada also recorded a temperature of 37 degrees Celsius, its highest in 147 years. The heatwave killed more than 80 people in the country.
The non-profit organisation Sustainable Energy For All has said that up to 1.1 billion people around the world are at risk due to the heatwave.
