AI Wingman in DCS are not particularly smart, they have never been. Only very basic options and commands can be given, and scripts or pre-set options in the editor are required for advanced behaviour.
So, how can you improve the AI in any mission? After a few tests, I have found that the simplest solution is a basic "grinder": command the wingman to anchor, follow your timeline, go Out at A-pole and call the AI in. As you can see in this video, it works surprisingly well whilst being elementary to use.
