Strip away the fruit
And the life-giving leaves
And I see nothing in that tree
To call beautiful
A skeleton swaying in the night
A night as cold as this
Makes you want to turn and run
Yet that tree alone could drive away
A million innocent faces

And I see nothing in that tree
To call beautiful
So beautiful
I wonder why years were spent
Building it up
Laying it’s ground
Now leaving behind
The crying sound
I see nothing beautiful

Pale faced and alone
Harboring a soul bitter cold
There’s nothing in dying souls
To call beautiful
A limp and lifeless prodigy
No imagination
Could cover up those wounds
Yet an eternal glow can draw
A hardened crowd of hostile hearts

And I see nothing in that soul
To call beautiful
So beautiful
I wonder why years were spent
Building it up
Laying it’s ground
Now leaving behind
The crying sound
I see nothing beautiful

Beautiful
A hopelessly hopeful
Tragic word
An adjective
Made to tear you down
The mind
Is a cruel and relentless
Enemy
Why can’t I
See anything
Beautiful
