Dead headed
Thunderstruck
Lurching by the
Whining wires
On shabby metal poles
And pasted paper signs
A ruin of a man
His furtive glance
From hunted haunted eyes
A cold and loveless absence
Removed from desperation
A life of moments
And the moment holds no life

A world not mine
But close
When morning optimism fades
No grace remains
And all of life is barren
Joyless
Pointless
Grey
Death is nothing
Death is peace

But no
I have a brain
That holds a memory
Of a word suggesting
This will go away
And the fantasy of mirth and joy
And laughter love and happiness
Leaves me doubt enough
To hope that maybe
It could come again
But am I willing it
Oh yes
My God I am
