There's just one thing I'd hate to do
And that's being re-born as a shoe
My skin would be with dirt ingrained
My eyes with laces would be pained
My tongue would never slake its thirst
There really could be nothing worse.
So pity you the humble shoe
And bless its sole when it's first new.
