David Harris - Afterglow

As the sun fades from the day
it leaves a crimson afterglow
that we watch for hours before
the moon and stars appear.

We call the afterglow the sunset.
The visage of the sun before it
goes to sleep leaving us
with the darkness of the night.

We rejoice with silhouettes
on the horizon that are dark
against the setting sun's
extended afterglow of sunset.

Romantic dreams extended fingers
into our mind to what
may lay behind sun's
evening afterglow before night falls.
