David Cartwright - The Queen Sleeps
5 Views • Jun 15, 2014
Description
As many dream they talk with royalty;
For, looking back, I've known you all my life.
And in my dreams you asked me for advice.
And as I lived through peace and war, and peace again,
You also lived as Queen, then widow, mother of a queen,
And always your example guided us.
You seemed to have an interest in our lives.
But now you sleep, my dreams have set you free;
Did I know you? Perhaps, but you knew me!
(On the death of the Queen Mother.)
