I don't know where the Sun has gone,
Why it didn't rise these days before,
I don't know what I've done so wrong,
That it can't look at me anymore.

It did peek over the horizon some weeks ago,
As if wondering were I still here.
And for a moment I felt its warming glow
Before it moved to disappear.

But it's been so cold for so many days
That even numbness can't stop the pain.
And for so many days I've sat and prayed
For things to be right again.

And hope surged this morning within my heart,
As that horizon again did gleam,
That today could be that fresh new start,
That had so long eluded me.

And so I fixed my eyes to that low, red sky
That promised to end this biting frost,
And I watched and stared in anticipation,
Of the world that I had lost.

And I watched and stared for what felt like days,
Jumping at each trick of light,
And just as I was sure the Sun would raise,
It drifted into pitch black night.

And although it's no colder than yesterday,
And I've no reason to be so forlorn,
Today the cold cuts a little bit deeper,
Because I thought that today would be warm.
