Dave Morrissey is a talented artist who combines excellent melodies, biting lyrics, and understated production to illustrate his tales of life, love and loss. He has the hallmark of an experienced musician at ease with his craft and style with the ability to command an audience, something other entertainers rarely achieve.
But this would be of little consequence were it not for the strength of his material. In fact every one of his finely crafted songs amply displays his prodigious musical and lyrical talent at work.
He is a wonderfully versatile vocalist and a colourful character and it is each of these vital strengths that make his music work and work brilliantly. He generates a personalised power surge; he has an abundance of obvious enthusiasm, rasping vocals and a real penchant for harmonic hummable material. He hits our hearts with his arrangements, which add a whole new dimension to the music. And this is great music -- raw, alive, hot and cooking, it's blessed with a kind of nagging hook that will stay with you for days on end. Tempo wise there's something for everyone here, chest beating riffs, mid-paced stompers sculpted from acoustic wood shavings and the classically flavoured tear-jecker with immaculately crafted melodies.
