Daniel Young - All Nighter

A student renders thoughts as words
to represent his fractured paradigm
and struggles to fit all the data
into his massive memory.
Indices and algorithms rack inside his skull.
He starts behind and races
to meet the bar, he misses.
Always short of expectation,
his brow hangs in sorrow.

Fluorescent lights pick up where coffee left behind
the student studies all throughout the night.
Wide raccoon eyes are glued to his square of light
his snails
his fingers
type away.
Before the waking hour
he hits the bed
staring at the ceiling
much nicer than the clock.
The alarm rings.

Hit snooozze.
